FAULT LINE by BARRY EISLER

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Barry Eisler’s new book Fault line is every inch as good as we have come to expect from this great author (interviewed here).

You are captured from the opening line, “The last thing Richard Hilzoy thought before the bullet entered his brain was, Things are really looking up.

However this is not just another story of covert black operations run by secret government agencies, it takes us deep into the psyche of two feuding siblings and the events that bind them to one another, sometimes painfully.

Murder, corruption and intrigue all play their part as the story goes full circle reaching it’s final climatic end.

Way of the peaceful warrior - Dan Millman

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

This is a novel, based on a true story, but with fictional elements as well.  For the new 20th Anniversary edition, I made 200-300 edits - revisions and clarifications - and added a new Afterword that tells the story of the book’s early life, death, and rebirth.  I wrote it to inspire, uplift, and to remind readers of life’s bigger picture and higher promise - but not as a practical guide for life. For such guidance, I found it necessary to write a series of non-fiction books.

Sacred journey of the peaceful warrior - Dan Millman

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

This is not a sequel - it does not begin where my first book ends (and this has confused some people). Rather, it takes place within the first story (when Socrates sends me away on my travels).  In fact, one good way to read these two books is to read Way of the Peaceful Warrior until Soc sends Dan away to travel around the world - then read Sacred Journey - and then finish Way of the Peaceful Warrior. This way it makes more sense.

The journeys of Socrates - Dan Millman

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I devoted four years of my life to writing Socrates’ story, to finally answer the many questions I’ve received over the years about where he came from, whether he was married or had children, and how he became a warrior and found wisdom and peace. I set out to meet the challenge of writing a novel with depth and character and heart, and believe I’ve succeeded. It is different from Way of the Peaceful Warrior — I had no desire to try to clone my first book. It may contain fewer didactic teachings, but has a far deeper story. I hope my readers will agree.

Warrior in the shadows - Marcus Wynne

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

The man who was soon to be eaten had enjoyed a superb supper.

That was the first line of this novel which captures the imagination from the outset.

Ex CIA operative Charley Payne finds himself caught up in the hunt for a very different type of assassin, a hunt that gets more deadly as it gets more personal and takes Payne from his home in the U.S. to the Australian outback in an intriguing game of cat and mouse.

The Bank Robber Diaries –Danny King

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Plot outline: Chris Benson idolizes his older brother, Gavin, a seasoned bank robber. He aspires to be like him in every way and moulds his whole personality around armed robbery so that this is all he lives for. He holds normal working people (or plebs, as he calls them) in contempt and tries to ape Gavin without truly understanding what it is that makes him tick. When Gavin gets sentenced to 15 years in prison, Chris steps into his boots and tries to take over as head of a small crew of blaggers. He complicates things further by having an affair with Heather, Gavin’s wife, while neglecting his own treacherous, money-grabbing, adulteress partner, Debbie. A mistake that could cost him his life.

I found this to be a very entertaining story, a book that I picked up and got immersed in straight away, the main character is a bank robber but he just comes across as an ordinary bloke, I found it quite witty in places it gave me a few laughs and yet it was still down to earth, a nice change from some of the more serious things that I have read recently.
